If Andorra la Vella is the most populated parish of Andorra, Canillo is the most extensive, with a size of 120 km squared. Canillo is a municipality of contrasts, as in its domain, you can climb anywhere from 1,400 meters to 2,912 meters above sea level. Its population barely reaches 2,000 people.

Canillo is the capital of Canillo Parish, where you will find more than a dozen municipalities such as El Tarter, Soldeu, Bordes d´Envalira, Molleres, Els Plans, El Vilar, l´Armiana, l´Aldosa, El Forn, Prats, Meritxell, Sant Pere and Ransol.

The Soldeu-El Tarter Ski Station is located in Canillo, and is the most extensive and competitive of all of Andorra. In Canillo you will also find the Ice Palace, one of the largest ice slopes in Europe. Skiing and sport tourism reign here, and are the main basis of Canillo´s economy, even though other activities such as agriculture and the raising of livestock add to the economy.

In its domain you will find the Sanctuary of the Virgen de Meritxell, which is considered a patrimony of the Principality of Andorra.
