This is the youngest parish of Andorra, as it was only formed in 1978. But Escaldes-Engordany has a much older history that unites it to Andorra as a country, and Andorra la Vella as a capital. The ,hot springs are one of its main touristic features, and this municipality has plentiful hotel infrastructures.

Escaldes Engordany today is the second largest city in Andorra regarding population, but its history began in the first or second century before Christ, although manuscripts only date back to the Middle Ages. The first documents such as these were found in the Sant Serni de Tavernoles Monestary, where it talks about the small urban suburbs surrounding Engodany, of which dedicated themselves to the raising of livestock and agriculture.

According to these documents, in the 12th Century, there was already political organization in these small towns, in the form of head of families, who assembled with the others to decide on the direction for the future and what was best for the town´s citizens.

In the 14th and 15th Century, the tradition of livestock and agriculture of this place was beginning to transform into another industry, that of textiles with the weaving of wool, all of it thanks to the thermal waters here that served to wash the fabric. At the beginning of the 17th Century, the Foundation of Wool Makers was created, whose people dedicated themselves to the preparing of wool to be woven.

From the 17th Century on, the name Escaldes-Engordany began to take hold. Both towns began to develope a booming industry of livestock, textiles, and agriculture, as well as iron-making, and prosperity reigned in this place.

In the 20th Century, Escaldes-Engordany was converted into an even more prosperous parish thanks to the tourism industry, brought in by the attraction to the ,hot springs of Escaldes. Because of them, the first highways were built in the 1930´s, of which later were converted into the main motorways of the area.

Today, the Hotel Spas are the main tourist attraction here, and in 1994, the Centro Termoludico Caldea was built and is a fabulous place to relax during your vacation!).
